Welcome to Early Years, the start of an exciting journey in an environment that is happy, caring and purposeful, where pupils feel safe and valued and develop a love of learning.  Children set upon their journey through discovery, exploration and adventure becoming independent thinkers and learners.  They learn to do new things, acquire new skills, form friendships, share their thoughts, feelings and ideas and learn to ask and answer questions involving how, why, what, when and where, whilst having fun!

Our curriculum follows a 2 year cycle, based around exciting and stimulating topics. We follow the Letters and sounds programme for phonics and our maths follows the maths mastery approach, where we develop a deep understanding of number sense and mathematical concepts.

We provide learning opportunities through our Areas of Provision.  Pupils can initiate their own learning through focused play.  The Areas of Provision are enhanced throughout the year with links to our topic work, to offer challenge and to extend pupils learning.

Reception classes run as one unit.  We spilt into class groups for phonics, maths and literacy sessions.  Then the children move freely within the reception unit and outside area, to continue their learning and complete their focused challenges.

As we prepare our Nursery children for Reception and our Reception children for Year 1 our timetable structure and daily routines change. For example carpet learning sessions get longer and group sizes get bigger.
